With the VFL development league ending at the conclusion of the 2017 season, Liam Carter will be available for the Bloods if he’s not selected to play senior footy at Williamstown in 2018.
While Carter didn’t manage a Senior game with the Bloods in 2017 due to injuries and VFL Development league commitments, the changing landscape could mean an appearance in Bloods colours from the 190cm defender is more likely in 2018.
Football Manager Brad Jamison recognises the need for local clubs to adapt with the changes in the VFL structure from next season. “The VFL certainly has a different look next year with the Development league finishing up. It’s important that we provide our VFL listed players who are with us on any given weekend with the opportunity to play a good standard of footy, and while we can’t replace what the VFL clubs have lost by the demise of the Development League, we need to do what we can to allow these players to learn and develop at local level. We’re keen to work with the VFL clubs where we have players and provide them with as much feedback, vision, stats, GPS data and the like as we can”.
For Carter the chance to add to the 15 senior games he’s played at the Bloods and play footy with some of his best mates again is exciting, but he’s also determined to have a big pre-season and break into the senior team at Williamstown. “My goal for 2018 is to play senior football at Williamstown. I enjoy being there and learning and competing against great players”.
Carter’s availability for the Bloods will be determined week by week, with Jamison and the rest of the club keen to see him rewarded for the hard work he’s put in over the last few years. “We’re hopeful that Liam can make his VFL senior debut and cement a spot at Williamstown. He’s done his apprenticeship there and now just needs an opportunity”.
