After Two defeats of 85 and 45 points, we knew that we would have to be on top of our game from the start to ensure that we had a chance. Flemington finished on top with two losses and had a good skill level that would test us.
We won the toss, for the first time in these finals, and hoped that this would not be a bad omen. The first quarter was solid with our boys dominating from the start. Against the wind, we had two goals on the board and the for the second quarter, we were going to go out and show how it was done. And show them we did.
The second quarter was probably the best quarter that this team has played all year. A magnificent 6 goal quarter which set up what would be a strong victory for the team at the end of the day. Daniel Falzon, after a quiet game in the wet the previous week, tore the forward line up and scored some great goals as well as assisting others. All across the oval, the boys played with a determination that left Flemington looking for answers and a result that left us in a strong position at half time. As a coach, I have never been in such a comfortable position but the boys had done the hard work and now the pressure was clearly on Flemington to come out after half time and give it their best.
The second half was a wrestling match as Flemington tried their hardest to get back into the game and with our boys doing their best to hold them while at the same time, trying to extend our lead. In the end, it was a fantastic contest but our superb second quarter was enough and we run out 42 winners in what will be remembered as the greatest football feat since Lazarus rising from the dead. Not many teams are able to come from 5th spot to win a Grand Final but since our great win over Spotswood, this team has not looked backed and has dominated every game since and can now stand proud as the U14D WRFL premiers for 2008.
Michael James was strong as always with a Best on Ground performance. Big James, Anthony Callery, Daniel Falzon, Hayden Pettiford and Matty Volk all worked hard as well and helped to set up this win. The team as a whole worked well with no real weaknesses anywhere. While I will talk to many on their performances, I must say that this team is by far, the best that I have ever coached and while as coach, I will congratulated for this win, I must say that these boys have made my job very easy. It has been a pleasure to spend this year with them and to win a grand final after our first two losses is a great result for these boys who were prepared to listen and to believe in themselves.
See you at the B&F presentations on the Sat 23 Aug for 3.00pm.

This week, the Point Cook U14D team will be playing Caroline Springs for a spot in the Grand Final against Flemington Juniors. After their nail biting win against Spotswood, the team played a solid four quarters against Werribee Juniors last week to record a 48 point win, a significant turnaround from their 65 point loss earlier in the season. Caroline Springs had a close victory over them by 17 points in their only encounter this year and after the game, the boys realised that they had let an opportunity get away. This week they intend to turn the tables with many of the boys hitting excellent form at the right time. The game kicks off at 12.00pm at Albion football Club's ground (JP Parsons Reserve) Cnr Stanford & Wright Sts Sunshine. Entry to the ground is $5.00 Adults.
