Making Eagles history, Sam Whitehead has recently been named in a the New Zealand Falcons team set to defend their International Cup title in Melbourne in late August. New Zealand, having won the 2005 International cup, beating Papua New Guinea in the final, has drawn Samoa, India and Japan in their pool.

The Eagles will be looking to make a representative name for themselves this year after several key players made the extended Canterbury NPC training squad in 2007. Only 3 players progressed to play in the NPC carnival in Wellington, but with hopes of an increased presence in the Christchurch competition in 2008 come expectations of further representative honours.
