Thirds Match Report – Round 13
It was another slow/tough start for us and Belconnen had three goals on the board in the first three minutes. This time we did not have a lot of flexibility with match ups, so it was mainly up to the players to beat their opponent. Everyone stepped up to the plate and had a crack and we managed to slow the scoring a bit and get back into the game, but simple turnovers still hurt us a lot and we failed to give the forwards any opportunity. For the 2nd quarter as per the past couple of weeks we seemed to be holding our own and played some reasonable footy, but once again when they went ISF they scored and when we went ISF, we failed to. So we worked very hard and did not reap any awards for our efforts.
The 3rd quarter was very similar to the first as Belconnen piled on four quick goals and then we steadied and toughed the qtr out quite well. We missed some easy opportunities up forward and with so much hard work going on all around the ground it would have been nice to get a few goals. It was another no frills last quarter with everyone working hard and not backing off, once again we blew a couple of easy shots at goal, which we need to score to try and shift some the momentum our way at least a bit and to get some reward for our efforts.
Summary:
Once again looking at the scoreboard it looks like we had another ordinary day, but on a whole we played some good football, with the second half being very solid. Belconnen are the top side and have had quite a stable team all year, whereas as once again we went in with eight changes and when the ball was bounced we had 20 players available (one of which was injured and two previously retired) and we managed to get two more retired players to suit up to get a full bench. This meant the on-ballers got very little rest and worked hard all day. We showed patches of good football and teamwork, and what was very pleasing was the fact, no one threw the towel in and we toughed it out to the final siren.
