Full credit must go to the Ainslie Football Club and its coaching staff who executed a flawless display in all grades on the weekend. Hurt and surprised by the events of two weeks ago when defeated in both grades by the Hawks they obviously went away and did their homework and were more hungry for the football all day.
In Seniors we were totally outclassed and outcoached on all levels and in all positions. The Tricolours passion and hunger for finals football was evident and they will push other sides during the final series with a strong midfield and ruck combination.
The Hawks started reasonably and had some momentum but as per many times this year did not generate scoring opportunities from forward thrusts. We continue to look one dimensional and lack lustre in a majority of forward entries.
Youngsters Dave & Nathan Smith ( not related ) were players that tried all day and displayed the urgency and energy required whereas many of our senior players went through the motions ' chasing ass' all day.
Kurt Masters & Phil Lovett were valiant and attacked the footy with some vigour and Matt Ghirardello didnt have his best day but gave his all.
Our playing group seemed to be happy with the efforts over the last month expecting it all to simply fall in our lap, Ainslie thoroughly deserved their big win their 1st half was probably the best footy they have played all year.
After watching Queanbeyan Tigers dismantle Belconnen on the weekend our next match looms as a test of character and our development through the year. Under pressure our structures and planning goes to water and we need to mentally be stronger and disciplined to be competetive week in week out.
Congratulations to Nathan Smith who played his first senior game for the club and became the 15th 1st grade debutante this year. Assessing the weekends performance there may be some more in store.
