For the second time this season the Western Jets have been defeated by the Oakleigh Chargers. In what was a very scrappy game in testing conditions the Chargers were able to use the ball better to run out comfortable 27 point victors.
In what has been their Achilles heel this season the Jets were again let down by their disposal and inability to convert opportunities. The first quarter saw them kick 1.3 to Oakleigh’s 3.0
The second quarter saw the Jets work really hard, running and carrying the ball but unfortunately let themselves down in front of goal. They were able to keep the Chargers to just 4 points but were only able to manage 1.6 and another few missed opportunities. Oakleigh led at the main break by 1 point.
The third quarter saw Oakleigh assert themselves on the contest. They kicked 6 goals to 2 and lead by 26 points at the last break.
The Jets kicking towards the scoring end in the last were still half a chance if they were good enough but Oakleigh put that to bed with 3 of the first 4 goals to end the contest. Jets going down by 27 points and now face Eastern and Murray in a tough two week period before the final bye of the season.
Our next game is Saturday 19th July at Box Hill City Oval starting at 2:15pm
