Saturday 5th July saw a Super Saturday of football when all 5 teams were at home and taking on the Penrith Swans. The day started with the U10s taking the field.
The game started with both teams having some good passages of play. The footy went from one end to the other as both teams looked to score the opening goal. With some good play from both sets of forwards the Crows went to the first break with a slender lead of 1.1.7 to 1.0.6. With changing of the zones both teams remained very competitive as we saw the footy again travel from one end to the other. The Crows went to the long break with a 2 goal lead. The 3rd term saw the Crows take control of the game and show some great teamwork. At the end of the 3rd term the Crows had a good break on the Swans. In the 4th term the Crows continued to build on their lead. The young Swans continued to make the Crows work hard for their goals and never gave up in a great display of courage. The Crows secured a mercy rule win with the official score being 11.6.72 to 2.0.12. The younger players are starting to get a good understanding of the game and this is being matched with their skill level and confidence.
The U11s were taking on the 4th placed Swans and were expecting a tough game as the Swans would want to secure their place in the top 4. The Crows back at home after a few weeks away started the game at a fast pace and probably took the Swans by surprise when they kicked away to a 2.4. lead at the first break. The Crows continued to play attacking football and applied pressure to the Swans when they had the ball. The Crows extended their lead to 3.7 to 0.3 at the long break. The Swans started the 3rd term with some good attacking moves and started to pull back the Crows lead. The Swans continued to play well in the 3rd term to reduce the Crows margin to 4.7 to 2.6. The Crows got back on track with an early goal in the 4th and applied pressure to the Swans when they had the ball. The 4th term swung back in favour of the Crows and they finished the game 6.8.44 to 2.10.22.
The U12s currently in 3rd place were up against the 2nd placed Swans. The Crows started a bit slowly and saw the Swans take an early lead. At the first break the Swans had a lead of 2.2. to 0.1. The 2nd term wasn't kind to the Crows as the Swans played some great attacking football with excellent teamwork. The Crows just didn't make enough pressure on the Swans who at times had no opponent. At the long break the Swans lead 6.3.39 to 1.2.8. The message must have got through at the break as the Crows started the term in a positive way. The Swans found they had opponents now and struggled to get any easy shots at goal. The Crows kicked a goal and held the Swans goaless but they did score 8 behinds to increase their lead by 2. In the last term the Crows continued to play out the last term with pressure at every possession. The final score saw the Swans 8.12.60 to Crows 4.7.31. The Crows had won the 2nd half of the game and when they can get going earlier they will give any of the top sides a real challenge.
The Crows were looking to consolidate a spot in the first top 3 with a solid win over the Swans. The Crows started with some good running football and soon had a couple of goals on the board. They applied pressure both in attack and defense and this saw them take a lead of 6.4.40 to 0.0.0 at the first break. The 2nd term saw some positional changes with the Crows still maintaining control of the game. In the 3rd term the Crows lifted again and had another 6 goal term. The Crows finished the game with the Mercy Rule in place. The Swans had to be congratulated on their never die attitude and the way they played showing great sportsmanship. Well done to both teams.
In the U16s the 8th placed Crows were taking on the undefeated Penrith Swans. The Crows were under no illusions they would strike up another defeat. Any pressure was on the Swans to show the form of a undefeated team and premiership favourite. The Swans kicked away with a couple of early goals but they didn't expect the Crows to bang one of their own in. The Crows started to apply some good pressure to the Swans with strong tackling and contesting marks. The Swans took a lead of 4.3 to 1.2 into the first break. In the 2nd term the Crows couldn't add to their total but they again made the Swans battle for any goal. The half time score was Swans 10.9.69 to 1.2.8. The Swans continued to play good open football and during the 3rd term the pressure from the Crows started to fall off. They had managed to compete well and force the Swans to play 3 quarters before the mercy rule came into play. Well done guys, considering you have only 6-7 players who have played Aussie Rules before this season you should be very proud of your efforts. I know the whole club is proud of you.
This weekend 12th July we can all have a sleep in with no games scheduled. We are back on the 19th July with a Super Saturday of football when we host the Hawkesbury Saints in all five age groups plus Auskick. This is our last game at Cook Park when all teams are at home so we hope to see players and parents hanging around to cheer on the Crows.
HELP Parents this may be your last chance to assist with ground duties. Please let your coach or manager know what times you can assist and what you would like to do ie BBQ, Canteen, selling 100 club, scoreboard etc. If you haven't helped out yet, take a look at the same 8-10 parents who do more then one of the duties at every home game. Give them a break and volunteer just once! Remember we are all volunteering for the same reason, to provide a club where ALL players have the opportunity to play and enjoy AFL.
