SENIOR MATCH REPORT:
Passed the half way point of the season, and hosting Box Hill North at Allard Park, the ever improving youthful North Brunswick team battled well into a stiff breeze early in the game, to trail by just 6 points at quarter time. Box Hill’s forward thrusts continued to be thwarted by Mick Sorleto and well and truly in touch, the boys looked to take advantage of the breeze in the second term.
Bad kicking and some ‘blazing away’ proved costly in the second – with North Brunswick scoring just 5 behinds – to Box Hill’s 3 goals 1 and the home side went into the main break, 20 points adrift with plenty of work to do in difficult conditions – with only 1 goal to their name.
The second half saw some infinitely better use of the footy around the ground – but the same old story up forward. 1 goal 7 for the quarter – despite some handy forward work from Cam Twaddle and strong midfield output by Jason Harkins – was disappointing and an uphill battle in the last from 15 points down was sure to test North Brunswick.
In the last quarter, North Brunswick – with Defender – come key forward – Andrew ‘Lekkas’ Mountney getting on the end of just about everything – began to look dangerous.
4 goals for the term with some inspired footy – brought the boys within a point - but the siren beat us home and the four points were missed out on. 6 goals 20 behinds told the story.
This week North Brunswick is away against the in form Albert Park who has been storming up the ladder since North Brunswick beat them first time around. It should be a cracker….

RESERVES MATCH REPORT:
North Brunswick had a point to prove after being beaten by nearly 100 points against Box Hill’s reserves on their last meeting – and stormed out of the blocks with the first 4 goals in quick time.
Box Hill North were however, able to fight back and put 3 on the board in succession themselves and at quarter time were within 9 points. The second quarter was more of the same with 4 goals apiece for the quarter and North Brunswick getting plenty of drive from Hall, Ackland and Briffa.
The third quarter saw North Brunswick really assert themselves, kicking ahead by 22 points by the final break, a Joshy Wolter goal being a highlight and buoying the team’s spirit heading to the last.
Box Hill North’s big forward line had threatened to make its mark all day – and the last quarter saw this come to fruition – using the breeze and running over North Brunswick in the final minutes. Despite some final minute attempts up forward – North Brunswick fell 4 points short – in a wonderful game that we were extremely disappointed to lose.
This weeks Albert Park match shapes as ‘season defining’ and should be a belter.
