Sam Boontjes, an under 15 player for Chadstone Lacrosse Club, has made the impressive leap into the under 18 Victorian Lacrosse Team which was announced late last month.
Sam is one of the youngest players in the team, having just turned 15 in February this year.
“I was so excited when I found out I made the team, I can’t wait for the nationals in April,” Sam said.
“Even though I’m the youngest, the guys in the team are all really welcoming.
That’s the thing about the lacrosse community, everyone knows each other and they are very supportive,” Sam said.
This is Sam’s first selection in a Victorian representative team, having been selected in the regional team, Southern Crosse, which played at the 2016 under 15 nationals in Glenelg, SA.
Chadstone Lacrosse Club Junior Coordinator, Hayden Dekker, congratulated Sam on his selection.
“Sam’s dedication to training has seen his game quickly progress.
He started last year playing up a grade in under 17s, who ended up winning their grand final.
By the end of the year, he was playing with our highest level senior men in finals in a key position, face-off, so it's been a very quick progression.
We'll be cheering him on at nationals,” Hayden said.
The 2017 Australian Lacrosse Association U18 National Championship will take place at the Altona Lacrosse Club from April 14 – 17.
