Match Report - Round 12
Under 15’s
The under 15 boys were hoping to make amends with a victory after dropping points the previous weekend against East Bentleigh but were up for a tough ask playing against Berwick City who were sitting in second position.
The Gippsland boys started off the stronger of the two and were rewarded with a goal in the first half, scored by co-captain Jesse Buhagiar. The boys continued to attack without being able to add another goal and were left devastated when in the final minute of the match Berwick scored an equaliser to finish the game at 1-1.
Coach Lee Dastey was disappointed the boys did not come away with the three points but more than happy with their performance: “the boys played well and deserved to win, but that’s football sometimes”.
Under 14’s
The Under 14s were in good form leading up to the weekend sitting in third position, and after ladder leader Berwick lost the previous week, were confident they could leapfrog their opposition on with a strong showing.
The boys came out strong and were duly rewarded with an opener from lively winger Manny Scarlett, scoring his 9th goal of the season. In an even contest Berwick returned fire just after the interval to level the game at 1-1. Chances from both sides didn’t eventuate in any further goals. Gippsland being the only club to take points of Berwick in both matches this season.
The draw keeps Gippsland in third with East Bentleigh now on top and Berwick in 2nd. In a tight competition only 3 points separates first from fourth places.
Under 13’s
After a great effort the previous round, confidence was bubbling in the under 13s camp. Against Berwick who sat two place higher than Gippsland on the ladder, the boys enjoyed some great spells of possession creating a few half chances, but more importantly keeping their opposition quiet.
In the last minute of the game Rhys Galvin popped up to score the winner which was nothing less than what the team deserved.
Gippsland is back home for round 13 next week, playing at our second home in Inverloch.
