Football- Seniors. The club travelled down the road to Lord Nelson Park last round to take on the Saints. Danny Wright played his 200th game. What an awesome achievement after some serious health issues and what a great player he has been for Charlton. Well done Danny! A high scoring game ensued with Charlton able to get a fast start through some direct footy and intense pressure. Second gamer Charlie Patullo put in a blistering ball to find Matt Giri early who goaled and Cody Gunn was looking dangerous deep forward. The Saints fought back in the second to get within a point but when the Navies found extra intensity through the likes of Aaron Walklate, Anthony Judd and Tom Finlay we found our attacking flair and managed to take a 20 point lead in at the main break. The young Navies all impressed again while Angus Adams played a creative wingman’s game. The third term saw us control the centre early with Judd and the Walklate boys prominent. This control resulted in plenty of scoring opportunities and we kicked eight goals for the term. The Saints kept fighting however assisted by some lapses in our concentration at times. The final term was a grind as tired legs set in but we managed to control our lead and run out 18 point winners.
Reserves-The Ressies were outplayed by the top four placed Saints and suffered a hefty loss. Damien McIntyre battled hard in the ruck while Ryan Moloney deflected plenty of Saints footy to avoid a bigger defeat. Connor Lee and Marcus Campbell tried to get creative for us while Liam Connors kicked two goals. Will Fitzpatrick, Connor Hooper McKenzie and Corey Fanning were also amongst our better players.

After a very slow start the boys rallied together and managed 1 goal to St Arnaud’s 3 goals five behinds at the first break. With some inspiring words from Coach Chris Thompson at quarter time the boys grew in confidence against the bigger and stronger opposition, we may not have managed to add to our score on the board, but we managed to restrict St Arnaud to only adding 1 goal and 5 behinds as our backline and onballers worked tirelessly and stuck with the opposition well, making them work extra hard. At the half time break the Coaches encouraged the boys to take the opposition on and tackle hard, leading to the boys winning the third quarter, by a point. Going into the last quarter the flood was well and truly on, with most if not all of the players in St Arnaud’s forward half resulting in them only scoring an additional 4 points. The club is proud of the continued efforts the younger brigade as they are improving each and every week. Keep up the great work boys, our efforts will be rewarded.
