Senior Club Update
Last weekend saw the 19’s take on Glen Waverly Eagles (essentially a Vermont under 19 side) in what was 1 v 2 on the ladder. The game see-sawed all day with Surrey Park eventually running out winners by 7 points. Harry Lacchiana scored 5 goals which takes him to 55 for the season with the team a game clear at the top of the table.
The Reserves, led out by Sloane Willing who was playing in his 300th senior game, started briskly against Fair Park scoring the first three goals. Perhaps a little complacency crept in with the opposition scoring some easy goals in the first half. However, our boys were able to step it up a gear to record a comfortable 8 goal victory. Luke Jackson kicked five and Tom Ross was named our best. Sloane also chipped in with two goals. We move to third on the ladder and seem destined to play finals, which will be great for the club.
The senior team got off to a good start to lead at quarter time by four points, then really put the pedal down to score five goals to none in the second and six gaols to two in the third. Stuart Johns was huge at centre half forward continually presenting and getting the ball to his brother Graeme Johns and to Justin Cuzzupi. All three scored four goals each and were named our best. The final margin was 57 points and was fitting reward for the hard work displayed by the entire team on the day.
Thanks to all that attended the Ladies Lunch – your support for the club is amazing and we can’t wait to see this event grow even further next year!
This week the seniors and reserves head to Koonung Reserve to take on Nunawading. The seniors welcome back Darby Edgeworth, who will add run to the midfield while under 19 captain James Marshall makes his first XVIII debut, so congratulations James and best of luck tomorrow. The 19’s play Donvale at Donvale with a win going a long way to ensuring a place in the second semi-final later in the year.
