Swans co coach Clinton Wells has announced he will be stepping down at the end of this season. Addressing players and the club faithful, the club legend said he felt the time was right to spend more time with his young family. Reserves coach Toby Pendergast also announced that he will step down again for the same reasons. Both will continue to be fixtures at McDonald Reserve.
Clinton told the Geelong Advertiser:
"It's been on my mind for three or four weeks now, just after we had our third child, the commitment of coaching GFL footy is a fairly large one."
"I've given footy a fair bit of my time over the years and my wife has supported me through all of it and it's probably time for me to give a little bit back to my family and my wife and allow her to do the things she wants to do."
"It's been an amazing journey and being able to coach the club that I played at for so many years has been great fun, although we didn't get the wins that we would have liked, I think we are building a culture and developing these young guys to put a few wins on the board in the near future."
"We're still really positive that we can finish the season on a high and the boys can take that form into the pre-season and into 2018."
"The longer the year has gone on the better they've played together and jelled and they're starting to put some more consistent performances together. They are putting up more four quarter performances so hopefully if we can put together those performances we can win more than not."
