SENIORS MATCH REPORT v SYNDAL TALLY HO
Round 10 saw North Brunswick match up on the currently bottom placed Syndal Tally Ho, who although struggling to notch up any wins for the season – are always competitive and hard to beat on their home ground. The day seemed to get colder and colder in Chadstone – wetter and more miserable as the day went on the two teams battled it out in a low scoring affair.
Jarrod Ford’s 3 second quarter goals was the real spark for North Brunswick whose hard work had only yielded 5 goals up until three quarter time. The usual suspects Santacroce, Pizzari and Hearn were winning the ball in the middle – but trailing by 5 points at three quarter time someone had to make it happen up forward.
The ‘Moose’ - Joe Boudoloh got his big ‘dukes’ on the end of a North Brunswick forward thrust and put them ahead early in the term – but then Syndal went on the attack. Time for the North Brunswick defence to stand up and they did – led by the evergreen Darren Adams – a multitude of inside 50’s for Syndal only produced one goal - and with roughly 2 minutes remaining – and Syndal in front again by 5 points, the scene was set for some heroics.
Enter Cameron Twaddle, North Brunswick stalwart and team vice captain, who marked – albeit on the second bite of the cherry – 45 metres out from goal – dead in front. The veteran casually sauntered back – summed up the task and proceeded to massage the prune straight through the big sticks.
North Brunswick by a point!!
After the game – the writer congratulated Cameron on his final minute heroics and commented on his casual approach, effortless conversion and understated celebrations. His response;
“Mate, I couldn’t see the scoreboard without my glasses – so I thought we were 2 goals down – that’s why there was no pressure!!.”
North Brunswick 7.9.51 def Syndal Tally Ho 7.8.50
Goal Kickers: J. Ford 3, J. Boudoloh 2, C. Twaddle, R. Dowsett
RESERVES MATCH REPORT v SYNDAL TALLY HO
North Brunswick were able to gain the early ascendancy with the breeze in the first quarter, kicking 3 goals 5 behinds to just a point from the opposition. Although Syndal fought back well, the North Brunswick reserves were able to hold them off and never surrender the lead – taking the win by 10 points.
James “Cooney” Russell was terrific in defence, and midfielders Hall, Spano and Dean Briffa were all important in a solid team effort in tough conditions. The ressies will look to make it 2 wins in a row, facing a much improved Mt.Lilydale this week.
