The Coomera Magpies Senior team endured a tough defeat at to a clinical Coolangatta side at Peak Oval on Saturday.
Despite a last quarter fightback, the Pies were not in the hunt for most of the game. Poor ball use and a lack of pressure around the contest saw them lose 9.16.70 to 13.6.84.
Overall, Coomera had more inside 50s (46-39), but inaccuracy throughout the game cost the Pies, who struggled to convert, the ¾ time score was telling: 4.10 to 10.4.
Coolangatta were able to find time and space to move the ball cleanly due to a lack of Coomera pressure.
Defensively, Coomera had just 11 tackles for the match, and offensively, had just six handball receives. The lack of running pressure made for easy footy for Coolly, and they capitalised to register their 3rd win for the season.
The loss leaves Coomera adrift in 5th spot, two wins behind Kenmore, and two wins ahead of Park Ridge, who the Magpies face this weekend down at the Nest.
Coomera have now lost six of their past seven matches, with their only win a last-gasp victory against lowly Alex Hills.
The Pies may be in the finals hunt, but must improve their pressure and ball use if they are to have an impact in the finals.
