Team mates, family and friends celebrated Will Sutton's 200th game for the Pumas after he was again one of the best on field in the under 18s win over Toowoomba recently. Of course, there would be no fanfare beforehand, because that's the way Will likes it - low key, no fuss. He has always gone about his football in this manner, however his team mates over the years will attest that Will is one of the first players you want beside you in the heat of battle. His ability to turn a game, to make second and third efforts, to put his body at the bottom of the packs - just get the job done. Equally, those of all ages will tell you that Will's qualities go beyond his football skills as he is also a most unassuming, courteous and modest lad.
Beginning in the Auskick program, Will progressed through the junior ranks showing that his abilities far outweighed his stature. In junior premiership football, he received many awards in recognition of his demeanour and abilities on and off the field. Even as an under 12 player, Will was awarded Best Clubman in 2002. In 2005, he received the Parent's Award and was Best & Fairest Runner-up when playing Under 14's. As an Under 16 player, he was awarded the Best & Fairest Runner-up trophy and was (with Tiger Monk), the co-recipient of the Kevin Duke Perpetual Shield, an award recognising the club's junior players who have demonstrated the greatest potential in football. As a testament to that, Will represented the AFLQ Under 16 Colts team at the State Trials in 2007 where his performances were recognised when he received the Coaches Award. This year as a first year player, he was in the AFLQ's Under 18s squad, debuted for the Senior Pumas and is a key player in the Under 18's challenge for the 2008 premiership.
Congratulations Will - a loyal Puma ... and a damn good one.
