The Lismore Swans were defeated on Saturday and knocked off the top of the table by the Ballina Bombers. A tight first quarter was followed by a very disappointing second term for the Swannies allowing the Bombers to kick 5 goals to 1 and lead by 33 at the long break.
Three quarter time could not come soon enough for the Swannies with the Bombers finding plenty of space inside there forward 50. Lismore was disappointing kicking only 1 goal per quarter up until three Quarter time.
Three quarter time saw the Swannies trail 3.7 to 9.14 by 43 points. Swannies Captain George Massa urged the team to lift and play the final term as if it were there last and give it there all, and they responded. Lismore kicked the first 5 goals of the final term to get within 16 points and give the Bombers a big scare. Swans had there chances to get even closer but unfortunately the ball just did not bounce there way all day. In the end the Swannies went down 8.9-57 to 10.19-79 by 22 points.
Nathan Jones, Josh Mapstone, and Adam Rhodes kicked 2 each while Jason Bevan and George Massa kicked singles. Best players included George Massa, Simon Howard, Josh Mapstone, Daniel Bruce, Daniel Flint and Ben Hughes.
The team have been left with a few things to think about after the loss but should rebound this week against Nimbin at the Nimbin Showgrounds in a reconciliation match.
