A Neat Win Against One of the Top Teams
In and unusual situation the ground at Haileybury wasn’t in its usual great condition, as it had been pouring the previous night. We were playing Brighton who has the same win loss ratio as we do and sit behind us only on percentage.
The Bloods, however, didn’t get off to the start they were hoping for with Brighton kicking 3 quick goals to our few points.
We started to focus on the task at hand about halfway through the quarter with Gunston finding Mick, on a strong lead who kicked our first for the game.
Lynchy worked hard through the quarter with Marto setting up our second goal courtesy of Plugger.
Our next goal can be attributed to great work from our defenders who blunted a Brighton attack and getting it out of their forward line with some slick teamwork and down to Piggo who was able to snap a great goal.
The quarter was almost at an end but Shak managed to set up another kick to Plugger as the siren went and kicking a goal to make it all even stevens with Brighton.

The scores were tied and we were ready to fight till the death. We were not going down easy; we had to get our act together.
We opened the quarter with Scully finding Plugger once again who kick a beautiful goal. Great work by Scully in the midfield!
Tyrone snapped a goal to extend our lead. Then a lucky free kick to Lynchy in the centre saw Ash Smith running on to kick a beauty from 30 out on a tough angle.
Towards the end of the quarter an altercation broke out and whilst no one was paying any attention to the game Sam Casey sneaked in for a goal to put us even further in front. It was good to see the Haileybury team concentrate on the game and the job at hand and then reap the reward.
After the commotion Piggo had the ball and kicked another great goal. Shark once again set up a kick to Gunston, who took an excellent mark, which ended with a goal.
The quarter ended with Haileybury much further in front after a dominant quarter of 6 goals to 1.

We may have been in front but the game wasn’t over.
The 3rd was a terrible quarter from the Bloods, with only 2 goals and allowing Brighton to score 5 goals.
The quarter opened with an amazing goal from Marto; 40 meters out snap along the ground. The other goal came from the great Tom Scully who ran a fair way and kicked a great one.
Brighton had come back strongly this quarter and were only 14 points down at 3-quarter time. The challenge was back with the Bloods to respond.

The final quarter began with the ball stagnant in our forward line. It was going no where until Piggo finally put another goal on the scoreboard to give us the momentum.
Scully set up a great goal to big Lynch who kicked his first of the game. Then Gunston managed to kick another one, his second for the game.
Corey Millard ran up from the backline where he had played splendidly all day and kicked his first for the game. Then Ash Smith set up with a good kick to Tyrone who also kicked his second for the game.
Big Plugger set Gunston up for his third then Jacko setting Marto up for his second. The Bloods were firmly in control following the scare in the third quarter.
Marto then decided he’d kick another one just for the sake of it. Plugger sealed the deal kicking his fifth for the game, leaving Haileybury with a 57 point hard fought win against old rivals fielding a quality team.
