Werribee has a new Assistant GM, Stuart Balloch, and this week we took the
time to catch up with Stuart and talk footy, holiday destinations and his new
role as Assistant GM.
If you could just give a bit of a brief rundown on your background and
how you came to land the roles as assistant GM at Werribee?
Prior to joining the team at Werribee I was heading up the
administration at the MSAC education facility ‘The Melbourne School of
Sport and Recreation Management’. Before that I worked with a
consultancy firm @leisure that developed plans and strategies on sports,
open space and recreational facilities.
For a period of time I had been looking for an opportunity to make a transition
into sport and I was fortunate that the Board saw fit to offer me the role.
How long have you been at Werribee now?
I started in February of this year so that is just over four months. Although I think that might equate to 3 years when you weight it up against the football season.
What does your role as Assistant GM entail?
I would think the Assistant and General are the operative word in the title, it is really assisting and supporting Mark (the GM), who has been operating the club for a number of years now and this can be anything from the management of the canteens and staffing match days through to dealing with council surrounding the capitol works that are currently in operation.
And just for fun...
Football club supported: West Footscray Roosters
Favourite Sports person: Doug Hawkins (as a child) and Tiger Woods
Favourite place to holiday: Had a fantastic holiday in Vietnam
In five years time you’ll be: Hopefully I will have progressed my career in Sport
If you weren’t the assistant GM you’d be: Playing football with Old Westbourne
Best and worst parts of the job: Dealing with great people and long hours
