The East Fremantle Women’s Football Club (EFWFC) is celebrating 30 years of producing quality football players, leaders and people.
The Club was firstly established as “Melville Women’s Football Club” in 1988, calling “Melville Reserve” home. The club won their first premierships going back to back in 1990 & 1991 only taking 2 years since entering the WAWFL competition. The total number of premierships won now stands at 7.
After a brief the stint as the Melville Dockers, the Club joined forces with the East Fremantle Football Club in 2008, becoming “East Fremantle Women’s Football Club” with the prestigious “Shark Park” (East Fremantle Oval) becoming their new and current home ground.
In 2016 10 players were drafted to the inaugural AFL Women’s League including AFLW marquee player, Emma Swanson (GWS) and AFLW priority pick, Alex Williams who recently signed, along with a number of fellow Sharks resigning with the Fremantle Dockers for the 2018 season.
A number of players have also had the privilege of representing WA in the State U15s, U18s, U23s and State open teams over the past decade.
To celebrate 30 years of Sharks footy, an “Oldies Reunion Match” featuring past WAWFL players including Lyn Kay, Wendy Booth, Jules Nichols, Belinda Bentley and Lynette Smith will be held on Sunday 18th June at East Fremantle Oval with bounce down at 11:30am. The match will then be followed by the League game at 12.30pm and the Reserves game at 2.30pm against East Perth. There will also be an official welcome at half time of the League match for the past players and supporters in the sponsors lounge from 1.15pm. Be sure to get down and cheer on the Old and New Sharks this Sunday!
