A SUPER SATURDAY OF FOOTBALL WITH 5 GAMES
For full reports check the team sections.
The day started with the U10s taking centre stage. In the last round 2 weeks ago
the Crows failed by overtake the Lions lead and lost by 1 point so everyone was
anticipating a close and hard game. Come game time Craig was a couple of players
down and the Lions lent a couple of players so the game could be played 12 a side.
The Lions started the game running with a strong wind and with a strong forward
zone made a great start with 4 goals.
The Crows battled on all game and never gave up. In a great display of sportsmanship
the Lions players gave their best when playing for the crows. In the last quarter the
Lions sent over one of their best players who helped the Crows give the Lions a solid
test for the last 10 mins. Well done to a former Crows Mum Zeaona Mc Donagh who
is now the coach of the U10 Lions and is doing great things with them.
The U11s were next to take the field with Lyndon Hupfeld leading them onto the park
in his 50th game. In the last game the Lions the Crows got away with a 2 point win.
The Crows started off with the assistance of the wind and kicked away to an early
lead. The next 2 quarters saw a bit of an arm wrestle with both teams kicking a
goal in the 3rd term. The Crows would take a 2 goal advantage into the last term
however the Lions would have the wind at their backs. The Game soon had
everyone off their seats and standing. The Lions had camped themseves deep into
the Crows backline and had kicked a couple of behinds. The Lions soon kicked a goal
however they could not overtake the Crows kicking 1 goal 6 behinds to fall 1 point
short. Another win to the Crows. The U12s lost the toss with the Lions running with
the wind. With some great team work the Crows showed everyone you can score
goals running into the wind taking a small lead at the end of the first. The Lions
fought hard all game and made the Crows work for every goal. The Crows run out
the game with a good win. The game was played in the right spirit by both teams.
The U14s started with Mitchell Stevens running through his 150 game banner.
A great milestone and one that may not been see again by a young Crow, espesically
while playing U14s. Well Done Mitchell, a life member and also one of our foundation
players from 2000.
The Crows made a strong start to the game kicking away to a 5 goal lead at the first
break. They added to this in the 2nd and at half time were in a comfortable position.
The Lions took the field after the long break and gave it a real crack. They could have
packed up at half time but to their credit they made the Crows work hard for their
joints with both teams kicking 3 goals.
The U16s were up against the Lions who were 2nd on the table. Last time they met
in Rd 1 the Crows never kicked a point with the Lions winning by Mercy Rule at
half time. Team numbers have been increasing steadily with around 19 players
now registered. Each week is a learning experience for the team as only 6-7 have
played AFL before. This week the boys put the acid on the Lions who took an extra
quarter to win by the mercy rule as well as conceding a goal to the Crows.
It's great to see the number of parents and friends who come along to watch.
Well done boys, keep up the effort because we are proud of you.
