Game Day - Round 5

Under 15’s

The under 15’s were looking to back up their strong showing last week and hosted Casey Panthers who sat at the lower end of the table. Gippsland began brightly going 1-0 up through a well worked team goal which resulted in Connor Dastey slotting it past the Casey keeper. Adam Semple continued to add to his goal scoring tally for the season converting a header from an accurate Toby Mullins cross and then adding his second and Gippsland’s third by coolly slotting it past the keeper into the far corner. Gippsland’s strong start continued as they went 4-0 up after only 15 minutes  as Tristan Donohue picked up his first for the season before Mullins made it 5 just before the break.

With the result well and truly decided, the intensity of Gippsland’s play in the second half diminished with only 1 goal being added to the scoresheet as Donohue finished from close range as the home team ran out 6-0 winners. The victory sees the team sit in second position on the ladder, 3 points behind leaders Glen Eira.

Strong contributors on the day were, Jesse Buhagiar, Adam Semple, Connor Dastey and Zoran Winkelman.

Under 14’s

This week the U14 Boys were looking to get back on the winners list against newly promoted Sandringham.

However, strong winds made any constructive play difficult and for the second week in a row it was the opposition who started the better.  Aggressive play Sandringham and a willingness to get to the ball first showed they weren’t coming to the ‘A’ division to make up numbers.

It took more than 10 minutes for the home side to settle and start getting their share of the ball.
After a tough battle in the midfield, Gippsland got their passes just right and produced a neat through ball to Kishen Parekh who calmly stepped inside his defender to score low in the corner. After the re-start the game look destined for a 1-0 score line at half time when Sandringham produced their own through ball in the 30th minute to even the score at 1-1.

The Gippsland boys came out more determined after half-time and started to apply a lot more pressure around the ball. Gradually controlling possession for longer periods, the home team were eventually rewarded with a second goal when Leading Goalscorer Emmanuel Scarlett cut in from the left to strike high into the corner. It was just the lift Gippsland needed as they went on to dominate the remainder of the game and record a 2-1 win and putting them back on top of the table.

Best for Gippsland was Harrison Meyer with special mentions for Sean Sayle, Elliot Curtain and Emmanuel Scarlett.

Under 13’s

The under 13 boys still searching for their first win of the season hosted East Bentleigh, and unlike their previous games started off positively, with great work rate and ball play eventually resulting in Campbell Dastey notching his first goal for the season. The hunger did not diminish and shortly after the boys went two nil up courtesy of a nice finish by Rhys Galvin.

Into the sheds 2-0 up at half-time and in unfamiliar territory, the boys were fired up to produce much of the same in the second, but this was a classic case of a game of two halves. East Bentleigh resumed play with a fire in their bellies and soon reduced the deficit to 2-1. The opposition continued to apply the pressure to the Gippsland boys, soon resulting in an equaliser, quickly followed by another to take the lead.

Try as they might, the young Gippsland squad could not produce another effort to trouble the scoresheet, eventually going down 3-2 in what was a disappointing result from such a strong start.

Next week the teams are back in Melbourne; The u15 boys will be looking to continue their form iin front of goals when they face a winless Endeavour United at Reema Reserve, Endeavour Hills. Kickoff at 1:00pm. U14’s take on a strong Mornington line-up which should prove to be another tough assignment. Kickoff at 12:45pm at Dallas Brooks Park, Mornington, and the under 13s will look to secure their first win, visiting bottom placed Mount Martha in an early 9:00am kickoff at Padua College, Mornington.
