Game Day - Round 4

Under 15’s

The under 15’s travelled to Beaumaris who sat at the lower end of the table after losing some tight contests in the earlier rounds. The Gippsland side started well going 2 nil up in the first 7 minutes after top goalscorer Adam Semple added to his tally for the season, which was then followed up quickly by an own goal from a Beaumaris defender. The early goals released some pressure and the Gippsland boys played good attacking football throughout the first half going into the break 4-0 up after Adam Semple and Toby Mullins added to the scoresheet.

Gippsland continued to dominate in the second half as Adam Semple notched another to complete his hatrick and Toby Mullins added another two to also complete a hatrick in a what was a dominant display.

Strong contributors on the day were Jacob Matthews, Toby Mullins, Adi Page & Adam Semple.

Under 14’s

After the week off the U14 Boys travelled to East Bentleigh for their top of the table clash hoping to continue their solid start to the campaign. With both teams undefeated after three round the game was going to be a tough challenge for both teams.

East Bentleigh start the stronger pressing hard and making life difficult for the Gippsland defensive unit by forcing a number of corners and goal kicks.

After about 10 minutes of sustained pressure, the Gippsland boys eventually forced themselves into the opposition half and took their opportunity to return the favour by pressing East Bentleighs goal for an extended period. The game then see-sawed with neither team able to create any real chances until the 25 minute mark when East Bentleigh took advantage of a poor Gippsland free kick to press forward with numbers.  Unfortunately for the Gippsland Boys the resulting cross was turned in for an own goal. 1-0 East Bentleigh at half time.

The second half saw more of the same with both teams having period of dominance. The highlight of the half was three great saves by Ethan Farrell in goals to keep Gippsland in the hunt right to the end.

Despite doing enough to earn a draw, Gippsland were unable to trouble the opposition’s keeper and in the end found themselves on the wrong side of a 1-0 score line.

Under 13’s

The under 13 boys also travelled to Beaumaris and were hoping to start their game with more confidence than their previous three attempts. A cautious start led into what was a free flowing first half with chances created by both sides. A Rhys Galvin strike along with some quick fire goals by the opposition saw the Gippsland boys go into the break 2-1 down.

The second half started in similar fashion to the first, gradually increasing in tempo which resulted in a period of end to end attacking football. However, neither side were able to trouble the scoresheet any further, Beaumaris holding firm to notch their first win of the season.

The three teams are back at home this weekend; the under 15 boys hoping for more of the same as they face off against a winless Casey Panthers outfit, our under 14s will be looking to get back on the winners list when they host Sandringham, who is also yet to record a victory, and the under 13s will be chasing a result against East Bentleigh in what will be another tough test.

Kickoff times at Trafalgar Recreation Reserve are 10:45am, 12:00pm and 1:20pm.
