July 22nd-Christmas in July. August 5- Sportspersons Night with Kerry O’Keefe.
FOOTBALL-Seniors. We were searching for our second win of the season in round 6 against the Saints. We had plenty of opportunities early in the game with Aaron Walklate leading from the front and Angus Adams getting dangerous on a wing but the Saints led us to the ball and took their chances early, kicking six straight for the term. We managed eight scoring shots, Tom Finlay kicking a couple of goals and Daniel Thiesz taking a fine high mark and converting but four of our scores were behinds, giving our opponents an eight point break. The Coach reiterated some team plans at the first break and this seemed to have a positive effect with a more even and committed performance across the board. Daniel Thiesz continued his good form as did Lachlan Cunningham but the Saints weren’t going away and their contested attack resulted in congested footy denying our players any easy ball or quick movement. The Saints managed to hang onto their slim margin of seven points at the main break then extend it to fifteen at the last change. With the game finishing in near darkness we still had our chances to pinch the game but to the Saints credit they battled out the whole game to record a nine point win. Tom Finlay and Anthony Judd battled hard for us all day, Tom finishing with six goals. Our side has plenty of ability we just need to bring some consistency to the table each week to regain our best form.
Reserves. Damien McIntyre and Ben Gretgrix both played their 100th CFC Game against the Saints. The Saints jumped out of the blocks in the first half and raced to a strong lead. There were pleasing signs for the Navies in the return to footy of Trent Cossar who had a strong game, Ryan Moloney, Damien McIntyre and Connor Smith continued their consistent good form while Liam Connors played his best game so far. The second half saw us match our opponents but the margin was too wide to make up and we went down by 52 points, the same as the half time defecit. Troy Sait, Nick Byrne and Corey Fanning were other good contributors. Darren Good kicked two goals.
