TRI-COLOURS FLY ABOVE HAWKS!
In a must win game for the Tri–colours after 3 loses in a row we faced bottom placed Tuggeranong Hawks in what was going to show if Ainslie after a bright start to the season were serious about making a challenge for the finals. A loss to the Hawks would certainly bring and end to any thoughts of finals.
The first quarter saw the Tri–colours moving the ball well as they tried to break through the 7 MAN defence of the Hawks. With the skill and flair of youngster Pettersson and on ballers Crook and Lewis, the Tri–colours were peppering the goals only to be suffering the same problem as last week and once again letting the opposition of the hook with bad kicking for goal and as such went into the quarter time break only 3 points up.
The second quarter saw a fired up Ainslie slam on 9 goals to 3 with all players lifting and contributing especially in the mid –field where the return of captain Neely and the work of ruck man Stone saw the ball continually driven forward where fullback turned full forward Ghobriel was having an impact. Half time saw the Tri–colours 41 points in front and with their confidence growing were determined to not let the Hawks back in the game.
The third and fourth quarter saw Ainslie continue to play as a team with the first option and accountability paramount and with this attitude in mind saw the Tri–colours run out easy winners by some 64 points.
Good players in a very even performance were ruck man Stone, on ballers Neely, Lewis and Holmes and back man Love and Daniels.
Second Grade
Well what do you say.
A day so full of hope with so little application. A game we could've, should've won only to be out enthused by a more committed side. We had every opportunity to win especially after taking a lead into the last quarter. A few simple things that need to change. One is the high appraisal some players have of themselves. Another is more commitment to one and other and the final one is our attitude towards training and playing .I believe that we turned up yesterday expecting it to happen, well it did happen only for the team that made it happen.
We had better skills although marginally but they wanted it more and they got it. A couple of late withdrawals were a hindrance but by no means the reason. Some issue to be addressed tonight in a team meeting after training.
