The Goannas played Macquarie Uni at Goanna park on Saturday in what was a must win game if we were to stay in touch with the top 4 teams of the competition. The guys started off strongly by opening the scoring and taking a 7 point lead into the quarter time break. The second quarter was as tight as the first but we managed to increase the lead by another goal to go into the half time break leading 5.3.33 to 3.2.20. Late in the 3rd Quarter the Warriors hit the lead for the first time in the match to go into the final break with a 1 point advantage. The final quarter saw the students get an early break by kicking the first goal of the quarter, but the Goannas rallied and dominated possession to kick the next three goals. The Warriors hit back with a late goal but it was the Goannas who got the points.
Final score Goannas 10.11.71 to 9.9.63
Best players were Brodie Crane, Alex Beckton, Andrew Munns, Nathan Grainger, Brett Rizzo and Ben Dyhrberg
Goal kickers were Brett Harland 5, Brodie Crane 2, Shaun Costello, Alex Beckton and Greg Adams.
The Reserve grade was 1 win out of the top 4 and a good chance to join the Warriors in equal 3rd if they had of got a win. Unfortunately they weren't on their game and they were comprehensively beaten.
Final score Goannas 2.3.15 to 15.9.99
Best players were Mark Hill, Shannon Altorjay, Jeff Kemp, Michael Congrene, Fernando Lobendahn and Ben Gallagher

The Second division also played Mac Uni and for the first time in 2 years had a full compliment of players and reserves. The Goannas started slow and trailed the Warriors who kicked all of the 4 goals in the first quarter. The Goannas bounced back to reduce the deficit by kicking 4 goals to 3 in the second term. The second half was all the warriors, but the Goannas can hold their heads high with their best performance of the year.
Final score Goannas 8.9.57 to 18.10.118.
Best players were Robbie Morrison, Lee Nolan, Jesse Grosas, Garth LeRoux, Jonathon Stott and Dean Murray.

The Goannas have a bye next weekend with the rep squad including Jerrad Kennedy and Jesse Haurua from the Goannas heading to Wagga Wagga for the long weekend.
