Once again, Jack Dean and Rian McGaughey amazed all spectators with their courage and ability. Jack Dean has the most amazing ability to collect a loose ball and i am yet to see him fumble this year. Both he and Rian put their bodies on the line as do many of the other boys, but these two do it every contest.
Once again we started slow and it looked as though it would be a close game all day. At half time we were 1 goal up and needed to use the breeze in the third term to set up the game. Magpies kicked the first two goals and things didnt look great. Two terrific tackles in the forward 50 by Patrick Calagrossi led to goals and we were back in front.
Shane Guest gave us plenty of strenght at half forward, while Josh Edwards and Mark Leddy were terrific across half back. Sam Jones did what he does every week and saved the day on numerous occasions while spoiling their big forwards. In fact the whole backline was great and these boys are beginning to give us the much needed run from defence. Colin Sheldons second half was terrific as he worked himself into the game.
Rian McGaughey was moved to the wing in the second half and not only did he provide plenty of leads but his marking resembled someone much taller. He really had a big influence and with Blake Hynes working hard to get front position our forward set up was working very well.
Morgan Eyles and Tyson Nund worked together well in the ruck, and with Morgan built like a winger, he should be commended for his courage and workrate.
Lachlin Harris, Fraser Nichalson-Bliesner and Blake Hynes all played Sunday after games with the seniors on Saturday. Because of our massive injury list which include, Hede and Driffield just to name two, the boys had to double up and we are all gratfull for their efforts.
So the boys have put two great wins together in two weeks and should be able to use the confidence from these games for the rest of the season.
Daniel Gull is leaving for overseas shortly and we wish him all the best from everyone at the Hornets. Good luck mate!!
Well done lads
