After 8 rounds of the Pineapple Hotel Cup competition, both teams are yet to register a win although the Roos are a rung higher on the PHC ladder on percentages.
Maroochy/Northshore comes off an away loss to premiership favourites PBC although they scored a creditable 73 points. The Pumas were at home to 3rd placed Noosa and were no match on the scoreboard although the efforts of the players were commendable. There was quite a parallel in Round 7 the previous week when both the Roos and Pumas had wins in their sights only to see their demise after final quarter goal blitzes by their opposition, Burleigh and Aspley respectively.
Thsi Saturday, in forecasted windy and wet conditions, the match is back on the Roos home turf and they will want to show their faithful home supporters that they can post a win. The stats for the season thus far would support that scenario with Maroochy averaging 70 points per game to the Pumas 46 points, and there's also a 5 goal difference in points to the opposition.
However, stats dwell on the past and the Pumas see the match as an ideal opportunity to also post their first win. While Noosa was too strong last week, the players are a closely knit group and have a fierce determination to perform well. There have been signs of better things to come when they were most competitive against Aspley and Coolangatta who are above them on the premiership table. Against Noosa last week, the Pumas jumped out of the blocks to score first and while the Roos have been getting off to flying starts also, they have had little left in the tank. While both teams will be looking for a good start again, defensive pressure and efficiency in creating attacking opportunities in the latter stages of the match will most likely determine the winner.
