With our shapshooter up forward grabbing everything, Mugsy led the way in the first term and was making the most of the tremendous pressure applied by all 18 players on the ground. With a 5 goal lead at the first break, things were looking great and by half time we led the Runners Up from 2007 by 3 goals.
With their record in the first 7 games showing that they are very fit, we all expected them to come at us hard in the secong half. Our movement into the forward line slowed slightly and allowed them to push numbers back in front of Mugsy. Unfortunetly Mugsy was up against 4 opponents in the air at some stages which isnt going to work.
Our lads had worked so hard early that maybe we ran out of legs and this allowed Magpies to pepper the goals after half time.
There were some really good individual efforts. Our undersized backmen such as Ben Rodgers and Mick Silman tried hard but were giving away a big height advantage to their opponents. We missed big Dan Gaunt who had to pull out due to illness but David Gazelle went up forward and gave option after option and presented well all day. Fraser played well in his second game while Evo just kept doing what Evo does and get the ball often. Joel Cooney ran his heart out in his tagging role and Damien Garton was very solid and has proven a great addition to our club.
