2008 #2 Draft Pick and former Northern Knight, Trent Cotchin made his AFL debut on the weekend for the Richmond Tigers. Cotchin came in as a late inclusion for fellow former Knight Adam Pattison with the Tigers looking to field a smaller side against the Geelong Cats on Saturday afternoon at the MCG.
Cotchin was preparing to play for the Coburg Tigers at the MCG in a curtain raiser to the AFL game, however he received the late call up when he arrived at the ground. In a fantastic start he kicked the first goal of the game with his first kick in AFL football. Remarkably, he becomes the third former Knight to achieve this rare feat in 2008 with John Anthony and Matthew Kreuzer also kicking a goal with their first kick in Round 3.
After having a severely limited pre-season due to an ankle injury sustain in the TAC Cup Preliminary Final last year Cotchin made his return to football last month through the Coburg Reserves, before playing three straight games in the Seniors.
