SENIOR REPORT:
After the hour or so drive down the Princes Highway, the North Brunswick lads arrived in Beaconsfield to be greeted by a wet, miserable and bitterly cold day for footy. This was indeed winter football from the old school and a character building exercise at least!
By the time the boys thawed out in the first quarter SFX were away and handling the conditions much better with 4 first quarter goals. Ben Williams slotted North's only major for the term from a tough set shot - and the boys were right in the contest, albeit without the 'scoreboard pressure'.
In the second and third quarters SFX were able to open up a bigger lead and show why they are making the early running for a top 2 finish. Out by as much as 70 points, despite the fighting efforts Jason Harkins down back and the ball winning of Pizzari and Santacroce through the midfield.
In the last quarter, North Brunswick began to get some reward for their hard work as goals to Jarrod Ford and Jeremy Freeman's "Brad Teal Real Estate Goal of the day" snap - came early in the third.
Finally North had begun to link up through the middle - with Mick 'Sleazy' Sorleto giving great run out of defence and newly married Stuey Hearn breaking the shackles to get most of the clearances in the final term. 'Unselfish' efforts from Stevie 'Cowboy' Miller and Jeremy Freeman found the ball inexplicably in the arms of Donny Manoukian for the final goal of the game.
Although it was a disappointing result, the great last quarter efforts should set the side for a good performance this week against Albert Park.
North Brunswick 4.7.31 lost to SFX 13.19.97
Goals: Freeman, Williams, Manoukian, Ford.
RESERVES REPORT:
In the noted chilly conditions, North's reserves fought out a tough close contest with SFX, who - like North Brunny's ressies - would be aiming for finals this year. With the margin never greater than about 10 points all day - SFX just found enough resolve to grab the four points, by a margin of just 2 behinds.
Bill Armour continued to impress in the ruck in his first season, and was supported well by Nick 'The Greek' Giovanoglou and Simon Adair who were solid in defence. Recruits Corey Hall and Matt Saliba also did some good work up forward with 2 goals apiece.
North Brunswick 7.7.49 lost to SFX 7.9.51
Goals: C.Hall 2; M.Saliba 2 Pellegrino, Robertson, Serratore
This Saturday - the 24th of May -the reserves will be looking forward to being back at home - on hopefully a dry day - next Saturday as North Brunswick hosts Albert Park at our home: Allard Park.
To all our supporters - hopefully you can make it down to the ground and support the guys in both games as we take on a fierce rival in what shapes as a 'must win' game for both seniors and reserves.
