The Swans Cup is an important opportunity to promote AFL in High Schools with this Open aged competition.
According to Glen Waide, Regional Development Manager for the Central Coast and Hunter regions, “This competition in 2007 proved extremely valuable for Junior but in particular Senior Clubs in recruiting New Players to CLUB FOOTBALL.”
The importance of this competition as a recruiting tool is that all Players who participate in the Swans Cup competition will receive information on all Junior and Senior Clubs in the form of a flyer.
So far a lot of umpires who have requested games and where possible the Umpire Managers in the AFLGSJ Newcastle and Central Coast regions will try and give as many of our young umpires as opportunity to umpire these matches over the coming rounds of the Swans Cup.
A copy of the draw for the Swans Cup competitions on the Central Coast and in Newcastle are attached to this article.
Umpires are asked to be at the venue they are going to umpire at least 30 minutes prior to their matches and they should wear their normal umpire uniforms.
Umpires should also make sure you make yourself known to the Ground Manager at each venue.
The Rules for Swans Cup matches will be as per Laws of Australian Football BUT REMEMBER a number of players will not be regular AFL players and play other football codes. The laws may need to be explained when you give penalties especially in the early rounds. Normally there will be no boundary or goal umpires and you will signal goals and behinds to the Ground Manager.
Match payments will be paid at the end of the competition and Umpires are asked to fill out (once) a `Statement by Supplier' form (please refer to the ‘Documents’ section of this web site for a copy of this form) and give/send to your regional Umpire Manager.
How to fill out the ‘Statement by Supplier’ form -
Name and Address of the Supplier is You
Please tick the box marked
"The supply is made to you in my capacity as an individual, and the supply is made in the course of an activity that is a private recreational pursuit or hobby"
Sign, Date and put your telephone number at the bottom of the form.
The Association hopes that all Umpires involved enjoy their matches and have fun as they umpire the Swans Cup competition.
