Today marks is a very exciting night for our club. Not only is it our first home game with the fantastic new Katandra West Community Centre facility finally in action, but also the first time (in a long time) we've played the traditional Saturday games under lights. A warm welcome to all those coming through our gates tonight.
Being the only Easter Thursday games played in the region tonight, text your friends and family and tell them to get on out to Katandra to check out our new setting and enjoy what should be a cracking night of twilight football & netball!
Our four grand final-winning sides (A Grade, B Grade, C Reserve & Thirds) will all be presented with their premiership flags, with footballers before their game at 4:30 and netballers kicking theirs off from 6:45pm.
Keep in mind there are adjustments to game times and quarter lengths so that we finish up at a reasonable hour. You can find these in the article here or displayed on the screens inside the Community Centre.
For those enjoying the weekend away (no Kats games on Saturday = 4 days off for some!), the committee would wish everyone a safe & happy Easter break. Our next game (Round 3) will be at Katunga.
Seniors
Facing Tungamah Rd1 was a great opportunity for our young list to see what level we will need to be at if we want to improve on last year. Congrats to Tom Jeffery on debut with his BOG performance at CHB. He never hesitated to put his body on the line at every contest. He was well supported also by Barrett, Muntzy, Bova & Benschy. Hickford showed he'll be a handful this season for any defender, kicking 3 & taking some strong grabs. Congrats to Frasier Opie, Will Jeffery & Lachy Dunkley on their debuts as 'official' senior players & new 3rds recruit in James Clee coming on in the second half & having a real crack. Awesome to see a couple of guys in Ferg Russell & Phil Osmond back playing senior footy again.
Reserves
Last week marked the start of the season and the boys failed to impress in the season opener, failing to register a score. Tungamah were far too good for the newly formed team and run out 124 point winners. There were positive signs for the club with all the best players aged under 20. Rob Trewin was judged best a field after his performance in the centre. Tom Griffiths was also amongst the best trying his hardest to stop Tungamah's relentless attacks. Riley Mann, Ky Howard, Hayden Linehan and Riley Williams were also shining lights in the dismal loss. We now look to put in a better performance against Katamatite under lights on Thursday Night.
Thirds
Footy is back and the thirds were keen to get on the ground for the first game against Tungamah. The boys got of to a strong start and played consistent footy across four quarters. A bright start to the season running out comfortable winners. Best players were Mitch Black who never wasted a possession, Rex Wardle was in everything, and new recruit James Clee was dangerous with 5 goals. Xavier Chalkley, Rhys Damon and Blake Connors rounded out the best players in an even effort.
Fourths
Welcome to a new year with 6 new players, the start was promising, but in the end the opposition were too strong. The boys did finish the game with a score and some very good defensive play. Best was Clayton, Talon, Manni (footy award ), Levi, Ned, Finn & Kyle. This week brings on the night match, let's see if we can shine a light in the dark and come home with a win.
A Grade
After a tough preseason, it's hard to believe round 1 has been and gone! The 1st game is always an unknown and we definitely found some strengths and weaknesses to work on at training. A relatively even 1st half saw us down by 3 goals at half time and playing some good netball. We let ourselves down in the 3rd with poor decision making and ball skills to trail by 10 at 3 quarter time. All that was asked of the girls at the break was to re-group and clean up our errors which they did, winning the quarter but going down by 4 goals at the final whistle. Not a bad game for our 1st proper hit out. Big thanks to Brooke and Hannah. Club award- Charleen, Telegraph- Bree, Cold Rock- George.
B Grade
A great team effort by all. We had no expectations going into the game as a completely new team but we came together well and gave Tungamah a run for their money. Congratulations to all who played their first B grade game and to Billi on your return to the game. Thanks to Han for helping out. BOC, Loz, Ella and Billi.
C Grade
Came away with a great win against a tough Tungamah side. The girls worked well together with new player combinations and C Reserve players stepping up to a more challenging C grade competition. Best on: Bonnie Ford, Eliza Phillips and Tessa Wright.
C Reserve
A great first game of the season with a team of old and new faces coming together. The team worked well together all through the court on the hot day at Tungamah with the girls coming away with their first win. BOC -Ashleigh Heenan (telegraph), Nicole Damon (cold rock) & Brittany Wickham (cold rock)

What a fantastic start to the season with a 15 goal win to the very competitive tungamah bears!! As coaches to see the girls work hard in preseason and then show that determination on court is truly rewarding!! The girls continued to work as a team a play four strong quarters of netball resulting in a great win! Of course there is a few little things to work on at training but other than that everyone played their role perfectly!! Well done to our best on court this week, thanks to McDonalds, Abbey Monk and Nelly Walters who kept the pressure up all day and continued to back up the attackers all the way down the court!! We are very proud coaches!! GO KATS!!

Tuff first game came up against a strong side round 1, good to see what we have been practising at training being put into game action. BOC Brooke who was very consistent in defence and had hands to ever ball and Sophie Garner did not miss a goal all day and court position was awesome! Well done girls

A great start to the season girls! With some fantastic passages of play and 11 great girls, 2017 looks to be a exciting year of netball. We fought to the end despite not coming away with the 4 points and that is something to be very proud of. Congratulations to Imogen on earning herself the encouragement award with some awesome goaling in her first ever game of netball. Go Kats!

Wow, what a way to start off the netball season. There were lots of happy girls and lots of fun was had. It was great to see the girls on the court and showing off some of there new skills. Tungamah were a strong team and kept the pressure up the whole game. Isabelle and Molly H were best on court for the game with encouraging words spoken to others. Keep up the great work girls! Ellie.
