Borough class above Dolphins in home win
By Justin Cooper
PORT Melbourne ran over the Frankston Dolphins in their Round 5 clash at TEAC Oval on Saturday afternoon, winning 15.19 (109) to 7.9 (51).
The Dolphins were wasteful in the first term kicking just the 5 behinds while the Borough took a 10 point lead at the first break after a 2.3 start.
The Dolphins came back well in what would turn out to be an eventful second quarter as 8 goals were kicked between the two sides, but the Borough managed to hold onto a handy 5 point lead at the main break.
The Borough hit back in the third term to take a convincing 27 point 3/4 time lead after a 4 goal to 1 third quarter.
The Borough finished off the Dolphins in the final term as they kicked 5 goals to 2, therefore setting up the comfortable 58 point win.
Impressing for the Borough included forwards Adrian Bonaddio (4 goals) and Rees Thomas (4 goals), utility Toby Pinwill, defender Sam Pleming, while tough nuts David Robbins and former Blue Cory McGrath was also very good.
Forwards Aaron Murray (2 goals) and Justin Berry, the pacy Ricky Morris and Peter Whelan (2 goals) all battled hard for the Dolphins in the disappointing loss.
Frankston had a much more satisfying result in the reserves game against Port Melbourne as the Dolphins triumphed over the Borough by the tune of 72 points, winning 23.14 (152) to 12.8 (80).
In Round 6 of the VFL, Port Melbourne travel to Bartercard Oval to tackle the improving Werribee Tigers next Saturday while the Dolphins travel all the way to Bendigo in search for a win against the Bendigo Bombers.
