With the boys having the week off we were feeling fresh and keen knowing we were coming up against the top team the Oakleigh Chargers who were undefeated. Our mood was high and all the boys were keen to get out there and show them what we were made of.
With 3 new boys coming up and playing there 1st game for the club. Pat Knott, Dylan Parish and also Simon Close all having an input to the teams win and stepping up to the next level and showing they were good enough at this level, well done lads.
The things we focussed on during the week were hard running and putting your head over the ball which all went out the door the 1st quarter with some of the boys a little bit flat and needing to get going with Oakleigh having a early lead.
Then things started to change our midfield started winning more of the ball and giving our forwards a chance, also the back line stood up with Linke and the “huge” Daniel Ross Smith not giving them an inch and going into the break only down by 1 point.
At half time the boys knew we were in with a shot to run home as everyone was up and Mapes getting into us in the break saw a different team which was needed to get us going and more of the boys started getting into the game. More run coming out of the back line saw us hit the lead for the first time of the match and not giving them a sniff and giving them a chance to get back into the game running home easy winners. On Wednesday the St Pats boys headed down to Melbourne to take on pegs for the 1st round of the Herald Sun Shield.
St Pat’s stared off well but couldn't find the goals kicking 2 goals 9 and then things went down hill from then on. With superstar Nick Suban and the school’s pretty boy Jake Garvey going down with a so called bad shoulder couldn't get St Pats over the line going down to a much stronger PEG’s team.
This week we see a few of the boys from the Rebels will be trying out for a spot for the Vic Country squad. Nick Suban, Will Young, Andrew Hooper, Ben Peters, Jason Linke and also Ryan Mckenzie. Good luck to the boys.
