In a very odd start to the first day at Allard Park for the season, the game started with South Mornington wearing North Brunswick training jumpers to start the day due to some navigational issues for one of the visitors. The pre-game debacle didn't appear to worry the visitors too much though, as they slotted two first term majors in the opening five minutes to surge ahead.
The fight of this North Brunswick reserves side was evident early though as they were able to get one back just before quarter time to be just 6 points adrift with Simon Weda in everything and new ruckman Bill 'The Fist' Armour helping the home side forward. A five goal second quarter, featuring two long Brad Robertson goals, saw the momentum and the lead firmly in North Brunswick’s hands as they opened up a 21 point lead in tricky conditions.
After half time, the visitors took advantage of the breeze and kick 3 goals to draw within 2 points at the final break. But with the breeze and the legs in the last quarter – 5 goals to none, with Weda and Robertson racking up 3 goals each for the day, saw a determined North Brunswick outfit get over the line with a 36 point win.
Great to see the ressies back on the winners list. We will be hoping to make it three from four next week against Bulleen.
