With 7 changes made to last weeks team due to injuries or unavailability, North Brunswick went into the Box Hill North clash with a 'new look' side - for the second week in a row.
The first quarter was a battle of the defences, with both teams' backmen standing up to the task. A dislocated finger to sweeping defender, Andrew 'Lekkas' Mountney in the first minute didn't help North Brunswick's cause - who already had a player who had played in the reserves - doubling up - on a pretty warm afternoon. at quarter time Box Hill North went in 7 points ahead, with only 3 goals kicked for the quarter.
In the second term, Box Hill North were able to break the game open with Dan Penny showing his class, running amok up forward. Goals from Manoukian and Briffa kept North Brunswick within reach, and outstanding defensive work from new recruit Jason Harkins was a shining light. Jeremy Freeman was also in fine touch giving North some drive from half back in his first game of the year.
In the third quarter North Brunswick were unable to find any answers as the opposition surged ahead with a 7 goal quarter. The defenders were under siege with Box Hill clearing every centre bounce and sending the ball in qucikly to their much taller forwards. Ford continued to work hard in defence with Harkins on the big forward targets of the home side and by 3 quarter time North brunswick were looking at a big defeat.
To North Brunswick's credit, they fought it out well in the last quarter and outscored the Box Hill boys, three goals to two. Pizzari continued to win the ball in the middle for North Brunswick, and continued his impressive start to the year.
In the last quarter goals from Comley and Boyd were born out of hard running and swift moving of the ball. Elements that we can hopefully show more of next week against South Mornington.
North Brunswick 7.7.49 vs Box Hill North 18.11.119
Goals: D. Briffa 3, A. Sammartino, J. Comley, H. Boyd, D. Manoukian
