The incredible unbeaten record of the Mountain Lions Under 16's finally came to an end on Saturday when they were defeated by Penrith at Grey Gums Oval. The sixteens last defeat was in August 2006 when they lost the preliminary final to Ingleburn. An fantastic 21 run streak followed, including last years unbeaten premiership winning campaign. The team were valiant in defeat with many Under 14's playing up against the super strength 2008 favourites, Penrith, and can hold their heads high with both teams looking to represent Sydney West in the finals series later in the year.
In the senior football fixture of the weekend, Penrith Rams Under 18's, fielding 11 former Lions players, were too good for East Coast Eagles in a nailbiting four point victory at Bensons Lane. The team is coached by last years Lions Under 16 Assistant Coach, Kevin Tate along with former St Clair 16's coach, Barry King-Smith.(see match report in "Penrith Rams AFL" tab on left.)
Due to school holidays, the Lions had a general bye in the other age divisions but will be back on deck next Saturday.
