It is great to finally get the season underway after commencing pre-season training on 1st November, 2007 and some 5-6 months earlier. Round 1 saw a positive start to the year by the Warriors with 2 wins and 2 losses, with the Seniors getting a good win under their belt. Also a positive to see the U18's field a full squad and giving a good showing. Improvement is needed across all grades as by far the best is yet to come.
In coming events, Saturday April 26th (Round 3) is shaping up to be a fantastic opportunity to come down to University Oval. With the help of the YMCA, MUAFC are putting on our annual MUAFC Sponsor & Family Night. With face painting, jumping castle and Auskick matches at half time. Added to this, all sides will take on Southern Sharks who look to be in great form kicking nigh on 30 goals against Nor-West on the weekend in Seniors. The only Night match in Sydney to be at with the Seniors bounce at 6:15pm and all are welcome. Check out all the details to be launched on this site here later this week!!!!
SENIORS
It's always good to get a win under the belt in Round 1. Round 1 saw us take on a team that had beat us on both occasions in season 2007. With new recruits and some greater experience with the young guys, we needed to see where the Club would stand in 2008. Whilst the score was promising, we did deviate from our game plan. If we want to be a top 4 side this year, we really need to remain focused and disciplined for 4 quarters. The coaching staff was very pleased with the two U18's Brodie Cooper and Timmy Scoular who stepped up impressively. On a positive note, we moved the ball well in patches and played a good brand of football, of which Parramatta were able to halt and credit to them. Looking forward to this week taking on newcomers to the league, we really need to show a lot more disciplined performance. Best on ground - Camo, Timmy, Croc, Reece, Whytey, Hamma.
RESERVE GRADE
Reserve Grade saw 9 new players; some stalwarts and some regulars take the field. That was the make up of our side and Holroyd-Parramatta came out to get back at us for the defeat we handed them last round in 2007. We started slowly with the Goannas getting a couple up and we had to play catch up for the rest of the game. We lost our starting ruckman, Claw, in the opening minutes to a nasty groin injury and that put us behind with no ruckman to support Griz in his last game for the club. We seemed to get the ball out of the centre well with Razzle, Mighty, Stringer and Stix directing traffic but we then let ourselves down with turnover after turnover. We simply gave them far too much ball and our skill level was way down and is one area that needs to be worked on for our coming weekend game against Camden. Best on ground - Razzle, Mighty, Stringer, Griz, Rooster, Marshy.
U18'S
The U18's opening game of the season showed encouraging signs and a further build on last season's performance. We persisted throughout the day for 3 quarters letting ourselves down in Quarter 2 whereby East Coast kicked 5 goals to 0 this proving to be the difference in the game!!!! Early injuries hurt with reducing the bench and losing key positions. We had some good passages of play throughout the day and need to put 4 quarters together. We just could not capitalise on opportunities. We are looking forward to a consistent 4 quarters this weekend against South West Sydney. Best on ground - Dylan, Red, Pooley, Ads, Belly, Huddo.
2ND DIVISION
2nd Division started the year with a solid win over the UNSW-ES Whales. It is great to see such a strong side take the park and is indicative of successful recruitment in the off-season allowing the strength of playing personnel to flow throughout the squads. Best on ground - Stumpy, Guns, Jockey, Smooth, Nippa, Mr Ed.
