First Grade
The weekend saw the Ainslie football club take on Eastlake at Ainslie oval in what promised to be a tough encounter for both sides with both teams desperate for a win, one wanting to continue its good start to the year the other wanting to register their first win of the season.
The first quarter saw a fired up Eastlake peppering the goals to take a three goal lead into quarter time. This enabled the tricolours to re-group and come out running. Being a lot more accountable Ainslie managed to pull the score back and go in at half time only 2 goals down thanks to a goal on the siren by centre half forward Ben Hughes.
Only being 12 points down and the team realising they were playing poorly there was an expectation in the rooms that a win was there for the taking. As the third quarter started Ainslie seemed to be getting on top but due to some poor decision making and fundamental skill errors late in the quarter Eastlake broke away to lead by 5 goals at three quarter time. The last quarter saw a lack luster Ainslie fail to match the free running game of Eastlake who cruised to a 46 point win. It was a disappointing result after last weeks big win but sets us up to take on the mighty Swans on Sunday in what is a crucial game with both side on 1 win each.
Better players in an average team performance were Argall, Pettersson, Crook and Neely.
