North Brunswick denied the four points, but plenty of improvement ahead....
After the reserves set the tone with a win in the early game, it was over to the senior group to pick up where the reserves had left off. Early in the game this was the case with newly appointed Deputy Vice Captain, Ben Williams giving our onballers first use and Sammartino and Schofield doing some good work early. A terrific crumming goal from Schofield and some straight kicking from Donny Manoukian saw North Brunswick take an early lead before Richmond fought back to take a one point lead at the first change.
In the second quarter, it was all Richmond. However, poor kicking at goal (2.12 for the quarter) meant that North were still in touch at half time.
In the third quarter - the North Brunswick forward line began to look more potent with Briffa, Manoukian and Twaddle finding the goals after some good direct football from the skipper, Pizzari, and Ange Sammartino. Unfortunately, the quarter was even more productive for Richmond, who slammed on 7 goals with the usual suspects, Nuske and Whiting proving a handful for the backline.
The last quarter was mostly one way traffic with Richmond closing out the game for a 52 point win. Manoukian and Briffa managed 7 goals between them and Jarrod Ford worked tirelessly in defence for North. Senior Coach Joe D'Angelo was able to take positives out of the game as well as acknowledge the negatives that are to be worked on at training during the week.
We look forward to this weeks encounter with Box Hill North, where hopefully we can registered wins in both games and get our senior teams account off and running.
Congratulations to first game players in the seniors; Corey Hall, Matt Schofield, Jason Harkins, Michael Bermingham, Adam Husband and Matt Challons. Best of luck to these guys for the rest of the year (and beyond) with North Brunswick.
