North Brunswick Reserves notch up Round 1 win....
After the painstaking wait that is the off season, Round One was finally upon us, and with a sense of deja vu in the air - we were again at Kevin Bartlett reserve to take on Richmond Centrals for a round 1 clash.
Filled with new players, the similarities to last year dissipated within the first 2 minutes as Richmond got straight on the board with the first major of the game. This years Richmond Centrals reserves were indeed a tougher, more skillful side than we had encountered the previous season. Richmond continued in this fashion, booting ahead by four goals, before Rob Peasnell and Roger Allen found goals to see us trail 5.1 to 3.2 at the first break.
In the second quarter, North Brunswick started to use the corridor to its advantage and it started showing on the scoreboard. A four goal quarter saw us gain the ascendency by 4 points at half time with Robertson and Ackland beginning to take control in the middle. One highlight was Robbie Peasnell's 'Medhurst-like' snapshot goal from the boundary that sent fans on the wing into a frenzy.
After half time, the North Brunswick reserves really started to play some good disciplined footy. Simon Adair was the general, steadying up the backline- and into the breeze North managed to slightly win the quarter to go into the last change 5 points ahead.
In the final term, North Brunswick were able to find goals through Caporrino and Serratore to seal the game, with Harry Boyd working up the ground to set up the attacking plays. All in all it was a very good effort in a tough, hard fought game.
Congratulations to new players, Jason Saliba, Justin Borg, Dale May, Mark "Vossy" Rosser and Graeme "Chooka" McConachy - on their first games for the club.
Next week, the boys will have to step it up another notch again as they face Box Hill North out at Elgar Park @ 11:40am.
