The newly re-named Tuggeranong Hawks women's side, took on the ADFA Rams in their first hit out of the year last night in a friendly practice match held under lights at ADFA Oval. Both teams fielded sides with many players playing football for the very first time, Tuggeranong had just 8 players take the field from last yearâs premiership side. With this in mind, there was still a lot of great passages of play from both teams. Tuggeranong had 5 individual goal kickers on the night in their 5-9-39 â 0-2-2 win over the Rams, 3 of these were kicked by players who have never played before which was fantastic to see. (Goalkickers: Puglisi, Herbert, Vella, Frazer, Dawes)
Tuggeranongâs new coach Kim Dickerson was extremely proud of all of her team, in particular at how all of her new girls performed.
"The new players showed a lot of courage and determination, especially for their first game of AFL. I was impressed with how quickly they were able to learn the rules and positions considering we have really only had 3 proper training sessions so far. I am feeling very positive for the season ahead."
The first round of the ACTWAFL is this weekend, however the Hawks have the bye. Tuggeranong will begin its premiership defence against Belconnen at 10am next Sunday 13th April at Jamison Oval.
