The Silverware arrived early to Lowe Oval when the Pumas U/14's took out the inaugural Round Robin Cup at Wynnum last Saturday 8th March.
The invitation only event was held between 6 highly rated teams including '07 Premiers Redcliffe, Wynnum, Sherwood, Calamvale, Beenleigh and Springwood.
The Pumas sent the Buffaloes (Beenleigh) packing early with an awesome 83 point victory in their qualifying round. The massive win, thrust the fast running Pumas directly into the Grand Final, having the highest winning margin in the preliminary rounds.
The final outcome looked very ominous, as the Leopards (Calamvale) and Vikings (Wynnum) fought out the spot to challenge Springwood. Both teams finished tired with Calamvale victors by a small margin.
The Pumas took advantage of the long break and had control of the Final very early, booting seven goals before the Leopards troubled the scoreboard attendant. Although trying very hard Calamvale could not match the Pumas overall strength across the ground and saw the Pumas power away to an 85 point winning margin.
The Pumas were best served by all 26 players who made the journey, although Angus Hubert took the spoils, winning both Man of The Final and overall Player of the Carnival. Angus booted 14 goals in the two games Springwood contested.
On a sad note our best wishes go out to James "Smurf" Green who unfortunately broke his wrist badly in Game 1. Smurf will be back in 6 weeks hopefully!
Praise should be given to the Wynnum Club for hosting such a great event. The Deputy Premier Mr. Paul Lucas presented the winning trophy to our team who revelled in the spotlight that they most justifiably deserved.
Go Pumas!
