Tiger has been through an intensive training and skills program over the past few months under the Bushrangers' Head Coach, Rob Amos. Joining Tiger after initial selection to the Bushrangers' squad was Will Sutton, who with Tiger, were two of the standout players for the Under 16's Springwood team last season. Unfortunately, Will was cut from the final 25 players but is a first year under 18 player and will no doubt make his presence felt in 2009. With both early season fitness and honed skills, both Tiger and Will are sure to contribute well in the Club's Under 18 and Senior teams this year.
In oppressive heat last Saturday, Round 1 of the Australia Post Under 18 State Development Championships saw the Bushies come away with a win 8.10.58 over the Northern Raiders 5.7.37. Adjudged as one of the best players in the game was Blake Wallis, a former under 16 Springwood Puma player, who also scored 2 goals. The other Puma connection was Ben Jaenke-Cain, a former Springwood junior player who was among the best players in several games.
There's no doubt with the dedication and commitment that these players have demonstrated over their junior years of football that any Springwood player can make it to such representative levels.
The club wishes Tiger the greatest success in the tournament.
You can follow the progress of the lads on the AFLQ website.
Postscript: In the last game of the championships, the SE Bushrangers met the Gold Coast Stingrays who were both undefeated until the last game. The Stingrays won the championships by 33 points with the Bushrangers runners-up for 2008. Ben Jaenke-Cain won the Bushies Coach's award.
