The first training session for the New Year for Umpires was completed on Wednesday 30 January 2008 with a fantastic number of umpires running around in the first of many training `hit outs' for the 2008 season.
It was great to see such a large number of Central Coast Umpires (particularly from the juniors) at training. The Association appreciates the positive comments in relation to our new, more centrally geographic training location.
"I would like to thank the Umpires who have given their time and effort on Wednesday night. And I would especially thank those in attendance for their feedback about the new training venue." President Darrel Luck said.
"The comments I received on Wednesday night was that if training had continued at Hawkins Oval, the Central Coast residing Umpires would never have attended training."
"To the detractors who said that the move to Baxter Field (at Marks Point) from Hawkins Oval was a bad move, I would like to point out the attendance sheet which shows that the Central Coast guys did turn up and this has vindicated the Association's decision to move training to Baxter Field," stated President Luck.
"I would also like to congratulate our new Fitness Advisor, Kerry Lee for putting us through our paces. The question is will she be able to put up with the group and our banter for the whole season. I know on behalf of the Association I would like to welcome Kerry on board as part of the umpiring family."
There were also many comments from some of the "old brigade" regarding the quality of the facilities.
Training now continues each Monday and Wednesday night at Baxter Field, Marks Point. As Umpires Coach Roger Crowhurst pointed out on Wednesday night, "Training is never cancelled. In the event of inclement weather, we will take the opportunity to undertake other activities (Laws DVD's and other theory stuff). What a great way to keep your training attendance up without the hard work!!"
A reminder that Umpires should note in their diaries Sunday 2 March 2008. This is the date for the annual Umpires Forum. As was the case last year, the NCCUA has mandated that attendance is COMPULSARY for any umpires that wish to umpire in the BDAFL in 2008. The forum will be held at Swansea RSL.
