WALK past Rams Arena on any given week night and you could be forgiven for thinking it is football season.
Hundreds of prospective TAC Cup and future AFL Women’s players have been strutting their stuff as part of Calder Cannons’ summer training squads and Youth Girls Academies in recent weeks.
On Mondays, the club is a hive of activity with our under-18 boys squad, under-16 boys and under-18 girls academy hitting the training track.
That equates to about 180 young footballers in attendance.
On Tuesday nights it is the turn of the under-15 boys and girls development squads, with the under-15 girls being coached by Western Bulldogs AFL Women’s player Lauren Morecroft.
On Wednesdays, the under-18 boys, under-16 boys and under-18 girls return for their second session of the week.
It is a familiar experience for many members of the girls and boys in our under-18 squads who have been involved at Calder in recent years.
While the rest of the Cannons’ squads and academies have the remainder of the week off, Andrew Johnston’s under-18 boys return on Fridays for a third session as they try to land a place in the club’s 2017 TAC Cup squad.
With this in mind, the club is on the lookout for more staff to join our team of trainers in fulltime and casual roles, plus statisticians for next season.

It is an extremely busy time of year before the club breaks for Christmas, however we would like to take this opportunity to thank the families and volunteers who have given their time to the club throughout 2016.
