Last night Ballarat FNL Chairman Wayne Baker took great pleasure in awarding long standing Board Member Mick Simpkins a plaque in recognition of his service to the Ballarat FNL over the past 12 years.
Mick this year has finished his time on the Board of the Ballarat FNL, however his contribution to the League and a number of clubs will never be forgotten.
Mick’s time involved in the League spans over a 36 year period which included the following:
Bacchus Marsh FNC: 1981 - 1991: 11 years of service as a Player, Coach, Runner, Trainer & Committee member.
Melton FNC: 1992 – 2003: 12 years official service as Netball President, Coach, Committee member & handled bar orders & runs the bar ever Thursday night during the season until 2016. Melton FNC Life Member with over 25 years’ service.
Ballarat FNL: 2004 to 2016: Joined the BFNL Board in 2004 and was the Director of Netball until 2014. Coached Senior Netball Interleague team for 4 years. Was a key member in overseeing the expansion of the Senior Netball competition from 2 grades to 5 grades, and assisted with the introduction of the Junior Netball competition which started in 2012.
Mick is also a Life Member of:
- Melton Basketball Association: 25 years’ service
- Melton Netball Association: 14 years’ service as President, Coach, Supervisor & Committee member.
- Melton Cricket Club: One of 3 original founding members still active and has given 41 years’ service.
