It is with regret that the Club wishes to inform all members and supporters of the passing of former 1953 Premiership player Brian "Wormy" Walsh.
Brian played 115 games with the club between 1950-1956 winning the Best 1st Year Player 1950, Most Improved Player 1951, Most Unselfish Player 1953, 2nd Best & Fairest 1954 & `55
Brian was named on a half forward flank in the Team of the Century with his player profile reading:
"An electrifying player who, in today's football, would never be far from the ball. Fifty years ago spectators had to wait for the ball to go into his allotted territory on the half forward flank before they could get a cameo display of his skills. Although slightly built his superb evasive skills saved him from any great physical punishment, for no defender could nail him. Because of his position he tended to play in bursts that could likely result in two or three goals in five minutes. He had great pace and superb ball handling skills. He was also capable of pulling down a spectacular mark if he drifted close to gaol. A special player whose career was cut short in its prime by a severe knee injury."
Our sincere condolences to the family
