The Kenmore Seniors have made their way back into the top five after accounting for Strathpine on Saturday afternoon.
Coming off the back of a humiliating loss to front runners Yeronga the previous week, the Bears knew that anything short of a victory will mean an end to their finals aspirations.
Kicking with the aid of a strong breeze in the first quarter, the Bears failed to capitalise on their early dominance. Wayward kicking (4 goals 11 behinds) saw them enter quarter time with only a slight lead.
The second quarter saw Strathpine begin to take the ascendancy, but some telling goals against the wind in the final minutes of the quarter gave the Bears a handy 13 point buffer at half time.
Kicking with the wind in the third quarter the Bears weren't able to take advantage of the conditions and similar to the first quarter, the kicking for goal let them down. At the break the Bears had kicked 10 goals 19 behinds, had they kicked accurately, the game would have been out of reach.
Entering the final quarter thirteen points in front, the Bears knew that a strong last quarter against the wind was the only way they could keep their finals hopes alive. With the entire team lifting to the occasion they managed to hold onto the lead and run out the game 12 points in front.
With poor goal kicking a major concern all season, Saturday's performance needs to be improved upon if they are going to a threat to any of the higher ranked teams in the division.
The Bears face 4th placed Caboolture at home this weekend and another victory will cement their position in the top 5, with finals a very real possibility.
